BCaster powers Sandstorm Run fan engagement for a second consecutive year

BCaster returned to Sandstorm Run for a second consecutive year, turning runners and fans into official content creators and activating their best moments live during the event.

BCaster powered audience participation at Darude’s Sandstorm Run for a second consecutive year, making fan-created photos and videos a repeatable part of the official event experience.

Following the success of the first Sandstorm Run in 2025, BCaster returned for the 2026 event in Helsinki’s Kaivopuisto on 29 August. The seven-kilometre event brought together runners from more than 30 countries, iconic locations from the Sandstorm music video and a post-run concert featuring Darude and other artists.

From spectators to official content creators

Live events contain thousands of moments that professional photographers cannot capture alone. Every runner and spectator experiences the event from a different perspective, but most of those moments normally remain on personal phones or become scattered across social media.

BCaster gave Sandstorm Run participants a direct channel into the official event production. Fans could submit photos and videos through a mobile web experience without downloading an application or creating a new account.

Incoming content entered one controlled workflow where the event team could review, moderate and select contributions while the event was still taking place.

A live audience activation loop

Selected fan photos were displayed on the event’s giant screen in real time. Seeing participant-created content become part of the official show rewarded contribution and encouraged more people to join.

The resulting loop was simple and effective: participants captured their own moments, submitted them directly to the event, the production team curated the incoming material and selected contributions were activated live for the audience.

The activation involved more than 1,000 runners and fans. More than 400 photos and dozens of videos were submitted in less than two hours, creating a visual record of the event from inside the participant experience.

“BCaster brought the perfect addition to the event and worked seamlessly with our concept. There was real magic at the event, and BCaster helped us capture it.”Katja Presnal, Producer, Sandstorm Run

Repeatability matters

Returning for a second consecutive year demonstrated that audience-driven visual content was not a one-time campaign feature. It had become a repeatable part of the event concept and production workflow.

BCaster provided the same controlled process for intake, moderation, rights-aware content management and live activation while allowing each year’s participants to create a unique visual story around the event.

After the live event, the collected material remains available as a searchable visual asset for communications, social media, sponsor activations and future campaigns.

The moments professional cameras cannot create

The value of the resulting content was not based on studio production. It came from hundreds of genuine perspectives inside the experience: runners, costumes, friendships, exhaustion, celebration and the energy around one of Finland’s most internationally recognized music exports.

For organizers, brands and sponsors, this creates more than a collection of event photos. It creates a rights-managed visual dataset built directly by the community experiencing the event.
